Oncobiomix is looking for research participants to test a non-invasive prostate cancer biomarker that may guide wellness decisions.
Study Information: Evidence shows that an individual’s intestinal bacteria, known as the gut microbiome, plays a role in cancer susceptibility and progression. Stool-based studies of the microbiome are becoming increasingly important. The purpose of this study is to validate the laboratory processing procedures, so that stool samples remain optimal for analysis. This study also aims to determine the efficacy of the prostate cancer risk test called PRIMUS (Prostate Cancer Risk Insight through Microbiome Understanding). The PRIMUS test analyzes stool samples for unique prostate cancer biomarkers using a proprietary algorithm. The goal is to eventually be able to provide results to individuals to help better understand their risk of developing prostate cancer.
Who is eligible to participate? Men between the age of 40-80 that are willing to provide a PSA test result, stool, and complete questionnaires on demographics, medical history, and diet. Individuals are not eligible for study participation if they have a prior diagnosis of prostate cancer or if they have taken antibiotics within the last 3 months.
Steps of participation: This is a decentralized study, which means you will be able to participate from the privacy of your own home. Participation is voluntary and the private information gathered for this study will be kept confidential. If you are interested, you can enter your email below to complete a screening survey. If you are determined to be eligible, you will then be able to provide your contact information and sign up for a video visit with a member of the research staff to undergo the consent process. Once your questions have been answered and you are enrolled, you will be able to complete surveys, and a stool collection kit with full instructions will be sent to you. You will self-collect a small amount of stool and send it back to an Oncobiomix affiliated laboratory for processing using a prepaid mailer. You will also be asked to complete a survey on the user friendliness of the collection kit. The study team will reach out to you annually for up to 5 years to follow up on your prostate cancer screening results.
